As a Customs Solutions Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have an opportunity to use your engineering, technical and creative skills to create custom designs for our clients. In partnership with our Product Development Lab and Operations teams, you’ll determine the feasibility of the custom solution, provide quotes to internal sales team, create designs often from scratch and execute. You’ll also provide provide technical support to assembly and manufacturing for all custom solutions in production environment as well as supporting warranty, service, sales and customers for custom designs. Responsibilities

 

  • Design and analyze components, sub-systems, and vehicles while applying internal and regulatory standards to designs with significant latitude for validations of technical solutions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, marketing, material controls, global supply, service, suppliers, test, manufacturing and assembly engineering on design optimization, and implementation of projects.
  • Responsible for the technical accuracy of design work and the work of supporting personnel.
  • Prepare CAD layouts and drawings as required.
  • Responsible for accurate documentation of all work.
  • Design and analysis of components and systems, including but not limited to utilizing Tolerance stack-up analysis, engineering calculations, FMEAs, statistical data, GD&T, simulation and CAD analysis.
  • Develop and document performance specifications.
  • Work effectively with outside partners (inventors, developers, customers, and suppliers) to develop feasible solutions that meet company objectives.
  • Plan and support verification and validation testing. Leverage test data to understand and manage design trade-offs.
  • Apply Tennant, Industry, and Regulatory standards to designs.
  • Keep abreast of the latest engineering techniques, processes, and best practices as they affect design assignments on Tennant products.
  • Independently identify and implement departmental improvement projects.
  • Write reports, maintain records, and record patentable ideas.
  • Create an action plan focusing on personal development.

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • Minimum 3 years of mechanical engineering experience
  • Experience with heavy mobile equipment, engines, hydraulics and controls systems preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of 3D modeling experience
  • Unigraphics, SolidWorks CAD preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple projects, work cross-functionally, and deliver against company business goals and objectives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication/presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated success in the ability to influence and initiate change.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, innovative and dynamic environment.
  • Proven team leadership skills.
  • Strong problem solving skills with an emphasis on processes.
  • Proficient in Windows Excel, Word, Project and PowerPoint.
  • Experience and knowledge of SAP or similar ERP system.
  • Sound engineering judgment and the ability to establish proper priorities on work assignments.
  • Experience working within a manufacturing company preferred.
