PURPOSE/SCOPE: 

Leads the functions of Operations, Inventory, Transportation, Quality, Customer Service and facilities for the Louisville Distribution Center.   

The Operations and Logistics Manager is responsible for supporting the Site Leader in the management of the distribution operation.  The Ops Manager will act as a change agent who will quickly develop a clear vision of the Distribution Center and how it can contribute to making Tennant a One Billion Dollar business by 2020. He/she will continuously evaluate, measure and modify priorities and plans to ensure alignment with and achievement of business strategy. Areas of responsibility will include Operations, Inventory Management, Customer Interaction, whilst driving pro-active employee engagement at all levels.   

 

GENERAL RESPONISIBILITIES: 

This role will be key in identifying and proactively reporting on the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) in order to communicate performance status and identify areas of improvement. The Ops Manager will be expected to establish and maintain strong relationships with peers, hourly associates and customers in order to communicate effectively. This Operations Manager will also be expected to strategically implement solutions in areas such as Inventory Control, Customer Service, Organization, and Continuous Improvement.

 

Operations:

  • Create a positive interactive DC environment driving motivated employee engagement by ensuring all Supervisors are treating the associates fair, firm, and consistent. Regularly review work methods, procedures, controls, and staffing to achieve accurate and timely movement of product, recommend alternative solutions as necessary; actively participate in conference calls as needed. Ensure the warehouse layout is maximized efficiently, including proper slotting of inventory; ensuring proper maintenance and organization of all warehouse areas for the safest working environment
  • Partner with management peers and Site Leader to drive continuous improvement and maximize efficiency gains to reduce overall costs; maintain a strong working relationship with management team and other related corporate partners; and regularly communicate with the facility management on issues that arise and be able to react as required
  • Identify and address organizational effectiveness challenges
  • Coach, train, and develop management team providing both informal (e.g. on-floor coaching) and formal (e.g. written evaluation) job performance based feedback.
  • Initiates employee actions such as reviews, promotions, transfers, terminations and discipline. Create clear goals for direct reports to ensure organization meets commitments.
  • Manage the strategies supporting in and outbound DC activities
  • Operate a Floor focused, hands on leadership style approach
  • Responsible for driving Operations Metric improvements
  • Affinity with internal and external customers interaction
  • Develop interfaces with local carrier networks to enhance a seamless customer delivery experience

 

Inventory Management/DC- Logistics processes:

  • Develop logistics model based system solutions to drive best in class operating processes.
  • Develop & Implement the company’s policies supporting inventory management.
  • Standardize transactional stock movements to enhance inventory accuracy across the operation.
  • Ensure DC operational processes are structured to drive continued efficiency & cost improvements.
  • Develop metric reporting to measure status and future direction of the operation  
  • Strong knowledge of systems strategy
  • Ensure that inventory is received appropriately and efficiently, and processed in a timely and safe manner by following established procedures; manage through Team Members to ensure product is picked accurately; pick locations are at full capacity, and dispatched on time
  • Ensure that daily, weekly, and monthly reports to the Corporate Offices are 100% accurate and delivered on time; address inventory shrink issues; and implement measures to effectively control inventory

 

Customer Service Solutions:

  • Develop a customer focused environment within the employee group in the DC.
  • Develop the DC - Customer Service relationship to enhance the overall customer experience.
  • Develop & introduce customized customer delivery solutions for a matrix wide customer base.
  • Identify customer quality performance issues driving sustainable solution within the operation.
  • Provide escalation and flexible operational recovery structures to guarantee customer satisfaction.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or Operations Management
  • Proven track record of leadership over an 8+ year career in progressively increasing professional assignments requiring employee relations execution, talent development, and effective communication strategies.
  • Deep employee relations experience with demonstrated success maintaining a union free work environment in distribution centers.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of SOX Compliance
  • Solid background with ERP systems (SAP preferred)
  • Strong analytical capabilities with demonstrated history of establishing KPIs and meaningful measures; strong lean, six sigma experience
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, using both verbal and written skills, with demonstrated capabilities in creating and delivering effective presentations.
  • Strong ability to collaborate within the business at all levels demonstrating diplomacy and influencing for impact.
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound judgement.
