Manufacturing Engineer

PURPOSE/SCOPE:

  • The Manufacturing Engineer will support the Operations Team by focusing on continuous improvement activities, root cause analysis, and supporting new and existing operations.  They will be the process expert for the assigned area.

 

GENERAL RESPONISIBILITIES: 

  • Creation & maintenance of operator work instructions
  • Create & implement standard work to drive consistency in processes
  • Evaluate and improve manufacturing productivity utilizing time studies & creating playbooks to yield well-balanced work cells
  • Daily Operations support – production floor presence with drive to “remove operator struggles”
  • Ability to generate and maintain PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) – assigning quality risk levels to each step in a process
  • Work cross-functionally to support quality system improvements, i.e. best build practices & error proofing
  • Develop, establish and improve manufacturing processes by analyzing tool design to achieve satisfactory components.
  • Develop, evaluate and improve manufacturing methods by analyzing and planning work force utilization, space requirements and workflow in assigned area
  • Collaborate with management, engineers and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other items to facilitate effective production processes
  • Collaborate with planning and design staff regarding product design and necessary tooling for efficient production and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency using AutoCAD
  • Confer with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions
  • Apply statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential, and analyze the need for and justify the expense of capital equipment
  • Develops and facilitates training for new & current products
  • Partners with maintenance, designers and external vendors to design and build tooling and fixtures needed to support secondary operations
  • Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions. Supplies manufacturing data to management for optimizing/refining manufacturing processes
  • Participates in cross functional project workgroups

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

Required Skills:

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic CAD capability
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities

 

 

 

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing Engineering OR related field
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge and competence in rotational molding and/or plastics molding operations.
  • Understanding of Continuous Improvement, lean manufacturing and 8 wastes
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on MS Excel.
  • Basic CAD ability
  • SAP experience preferred

  • Consistent attendance either onsite or remotely as needed by the business.
  • Ability to take direction and accept supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, organize and accurately prioritize work, be detail-oriented, understand when urgency is required and use good judgment in varied situations.

Required Physical Demands:

  • Must regularly lift and/or moved up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move 40 pounds
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
  • Regularly required to stand, use hands to grip, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms
  • Frequently required to walk, talk and hear

Environmental Exposures:

  • Occasionally works in outside weather conditions to test products or walk between buildings. Noise level has potential of exceeding 85 dba. Hearing protection is provided.

Safety Requirements:

  • Must be able to wear safety glasses, steel toed shoes and hearing protection
