PURPOSE/SCOPE:
The Intermediate Sheet Metal Fabricator is primarily responsible for the safe set up and operation of multiple fabricating processes while achieving and maintaining established quality and efficiency standards.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Sets up and operates Cincinnati CNC press brakes, CNC Mazak, Trumpf, and/or Amada lasers
- Runs Manual sheet metal machines
- Operates in a team environment to achieve department goals in productivity, safety, 5s, and continuous improvement
- Operates additional machines or process steps internal to primary to machine cycle times
- Performs cutting and/or shaping metal from raw form into usable parts for Assembly or Aftermarket needs
- Process is semi-repetitive utilizing machinery, tooling, and fixtures for set up and requiring some minor troubleshooting and adjustment to complete assigned tasks
- Utilizes equipment and measurement tools to drive part accuracy within print tolerances and minimize Quality Notifications and Scrap
- Process may be non-descript or variable, requiring changeovers/setup, troubleshooting, and adjustment to complete assigned tasks
- Adept at performing 2 or more processes proficiently within the department
- Assist other operators in understanding quality expectations
- Focus continuous improvement upstream and downstream impacts of decisions. Act as an agent of change on the shop floor by influencing peers
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical degree and 2 or more years of related Sheet Metal Fabrication experience or 5 or more years of Sheet Metal Fabrication experience
- Previous press brake operating experience is required. Prefer Cincinnati experience
- Must be able to obtain a forklift license through Tennant Co
- History of continuous improvement within previous positions
- Two years general sheet metal training or two years vocational training in sheet metal or related field preferred
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- Ability to perform basic metal fabrication processes – cutting, forming, and punching
- Ability to properly use measure equipment (i.e., caliper, tape measure, height gauge, plug gages, combination square, and protractor)
- Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings (blueprints)
- Ability to understand and follow method layouts and process notes on routings (work order)
- Ability to navigate production reporting
- Ability to use basic hand tools, inspection gauges, and related equipment
- Strong math skills (count, add, subtract, multiply, divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals)
- Competent in interpreting production orders, prints, and method layouts to determine the use of fixtures and proper work procedures
- Familiar with metal finishing techniques and metal finishing equipment
- Able to differentiate between hot and cold rolled, and stainless steels
- Must have the ability to train/coach others on the use of production reporting software
- Ability to troubleshoot and edit NC programming for press brakes
- Ability to re-work non-conforming parts
- Must be able to read documents written in English

REQUIRED PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires standing 90% of shift
- Frequent bending, twisting, squatting and lifting with arms extended
- Must be able to lift up to 45 lbs. Average part weighs 5 - 15 lbs.
- Requires good manual dexterity
ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURES:
- Hearing and vision protection required in all areas
- Safety shoes required in all areas
- Exposure to oil, grease, dust, metal particles, sparks, sharp-edged materials
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
- Exposed to hazards/risks that require body protection (gloves, pants, steel toes, sleeves, safety glasses, etc.)
Total Compensation = Pay range + Benefits
Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. Tennant Sales and Service Co. reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualifications of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity. The salary range reflects both entry into the role and future growth. Total Compensation = Base Salary + Benefits
