As a Senior Product Risk Specialist, you’ll be responsible for Tennant’s product safety and compliance across North America and the U.K.  This is a unique opportunity that will expose you to a variety of environments and industries as you track and act on product safety incidents, manage investigations and spearhead risk mitigation efforts. In this role you’ll be able to leverage your technical expertise to identify issues in the field and partner with new product development to bring those learnings back into the design process. As such you’ll have an opportunity influence future product iterations. Product Safety and Incident Response Process

  • Oversee, track and manage product incident complaints globally
    • Log assembly-based or NPD based incidents via existing approved procedures
    • Log field incidents and associated reports to facilitate effective resolution
  • Serve as Tennant’s lead product forensic investigation specialist.  This includes:
    • Staying current on fire-investigation & risk-based training
    • Staying current on Tennant’s product portfolio
    • Assessing product incidents for and recommending further actions
    •  Investigating critical product incidents through customer interface, coordinating with field sales/service and other key players
    • Traveling as needed on critical product incidents
    •  Preparing investigation reports within a specified time
    • Participating with our Legal team in defense of Tennant’s interests including an active role in educating counsel about our machines and defending Tennant’s products through the deposition process
    • Having engagement with our global forensic investigation representatives in our other regions.
  • Support the Product Hazard Management process with engineering
    • Investigate assembly or product development incidents to assess if safety-related
    • Serve as initial contact for field sales/service regarding machine safety issues
  • Serve as a key member of the Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessment process in product development
  • Pursue continuous improvement of procedures related to Product Safety Incident Process

Product Regulatory Compliance

  • Support the fulfillment of Strategic Account bid specifications by contributing to and maintaining department knowledge database
  • Support key compliance categories within the Product Regulatory group as available
  • Serve as the Legal/Product Regulatory representative on all Product Development programs to ensure product safety-related requirements are identified and integrated into the design and manufacturing set up for the product.  
  • Audit and enforce the requirement checklists from the product regulatory team, hazmat shipping, field service, EHS/manufacturing, ergonomics, along with the additional requirements established by the PSC.  
  • Apply historical knowledge from Product Safety Incident Process to Product Development programs
  • Identify gaps to the established requirements observed in product design or in internal/external test and validation activity
  • Process safety-critical ECNs (Engineering Change Notice)


  • Develop and train personnel (globally) on the Product Safety Incident Response Process
  • Serve as the Legal/Product Regulatory on-board training representative.  Co-develop and present introductory material to new hires in the areas of Product Safety and Liability.
  • Maintain a training roadmap for a core group of product forensic support staff


Education and Experience


  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing or similar environment with experience managing or handling product safety design and investigation, field service and/or training.  


  • Bachelor’s Degree in safety, engineering or related technical field plus a minimum of 3 years of experience dealing with safety, manufacturing, product design, environmental and Hazmat issues within an industrial or regulatory setting preferred
  • Calm and confident demeanor in the presence of customers, investigators and counsel.
  • Deposition experience a plus.
  • Working knowledge of product safety, risk management, and problem solving. Knowledge of environmental and hazardous materials regulations/procedures a plus. 
  • Ability to manage or support multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organization skills.
  • Team building, influencing, and auditing skills.
  • Some overnight travel may be required.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications; SharePoint and Access proficiency a plus.
