Engineering Manager – Software Validation
Tennant Company, a technology leader in developing sustainable cleaning solutions, is recruiting for a manager with a strong background in Firmware Validation both Manual and Automated to serve as a Validation Engineering Manager. The successful candidate will participate in the evaluation and assessments of a broad range of innovative product designs that utilizes the latest in cleaning technologies, leading edge battery and charger technologies, and fully autonomous vehicles. We are looking for someone who is passionate about product testing and enjoys working with a team of talented engineers and is eager to take on big challenges. As part of this team, you will have the ability to contribute significantly to the delivery of our award-winning products around the world!
RESPONISIBILITIES
- Manage a team of engineers with focus on manual and automated firmware validation
- Performance management of direct reports including growth and development
- Establish priorities for direct reports and project assignments
- Collaborate with design team to develop automated test programs for Tennant’s Robotics and standard platforms
- Support the development of controls reliability and functionality testing systems
- Drive a strong product reliability culture using leading edge accelerated test strategies
- Mentor engineers regarding controls testing principles
- Participate in design reviews for controls systems with design engineering
- Contribute to design documentation, including context diagrams and flowcharts
- Evaluate product controls for compliance to regulatory requirements
- Work cross-functionally to lead and execute product validation programs
- Participate in executive level report-outs on performance results
- Maximize utilization of HALT, Charger, and Battery Test Assets
- Identify, justify, and deploy new test assets to enhance Tennant’s understanding of product performance
- Monitor relevant technology trends, industry news, process/tools benchmarking opportunities and provide synthesis and recommended actions to leadership on regular basis.
DESIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
- BS in Electrical, Software, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited four-year college or university; BS requires 10+ years, MS 5-10 years, PHD 2-5 years relevant experience
- CANopen and J1939 buses and frameworks
- Embedded software development employing:
- C/C++ and structured programming
- RTOS systems
- Doors or other requirements management tool
- Preferred configuration management tools such as Subversion, ClearCase, etc.
- PLC programming (Allen Bradly and Automation Direct preferred)
- Computer control systems programming (National Instruments LabVIEW preferred)
- Embedded control system software validation with an emphasis in firmware
- Preferred EMC/EMI testing and troubleshooting
- Electric vehicle and automated navigation system design experience highly desirable
- Six Sigma Black Belt preferred - Green Belt accepted
- TestStand with LabVIEW driver programming experience
- Trained on Reliability and Product Life analysis methodologies
- PXI and GPIB based test development
- Hands on experience with benchtop test equipment such as DMMs and oscilloscopes
- Advanced Windows operating system skills
