Sustainability Manager

Specific job responsibilities will include, and are not limited to:

  • Lead sustainability reporting, including the development and launch of Tennant’s annual Sustainability Report
  • Lead global data collection, management, verification, and assurance to evaluate and disclose sustainability and ESG performance
  • Monitor Tennant’s sustainability scores and lead responses to ESG data requests (Sustainalytics, CDP, etc.)
  • Design and lead periodic materiality assessments
  • Assist in the development of Tennant’s sustainability and ESG strategies
  • Synthesize sustainability data and produce reports for key stakeholders, including executive leadership
  • Coordinate and prepare responses to sustainability requests from customers and/or suppliers
  • Lead development of external stakeholder materials (brochures, position statements, etc.) and manage internal and external webpages
  • Partner with corporate communications and marketing teams to activate Tennant’s sustainability strategy across brand and PR, helping build the company’s reputation
  • Support employee communications, engagement
  • Other duties as assigned based on business need

Basic Qualifications

  • Passion for making a positive impact in the world
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is required (field of study preferably sustainability, political science, or business)
  • 3-5 years’ experience in sustainability, business, environmental matters, and/or corporate responsibility
  • Understanding of sustainability frameworks, initiatives, and reporting is required
  • Experience leading company-wide Sustainability initiatives is required
  • Experience in brand, marketing or communications is required
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and communicate effectively
  • Excellent project management, organizational and time management abilities
  • Ability to work independently as well as cross functionally and cross culturally

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of and experience with sustainability-related topics and trends
  • Knowledge of sustainability reporting software tools, environmental regulations, climate change protocols, United Nations programs, and sustainability reporting frameworks, including TCFD, SASB, GRI, CDP, UN Global Compact, UN Sustainable Development Goals, Greenhouse Gas Protocol
  • Familiarity with materiality assessments, data verification and assurance
  • Knowledge of ESG raters and rankings
  • Able to serve as subject mater expert in sustainability and ESG
  • Experience in sustainability or ESG communications or public relations
  • Comfort and proficiency in translating technical environmental and social data into meaningful messages for internal and external audiences
  • Experience with effectively collaborating with senior leaders across multiple businesses and functions
  • Negotiation skills and experience building consensus among a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience with global corporate business practices and systems is preferred
  • Creative problem-solver with strong analytical skills
  • Superb oral communicator with excellent presentation skills
