Senior IT Manager

Position Summary

The Sr. Manager, Enterprise Applications leads a high performing team that is responsible for providing application services and support to the global Tennant organization. In this role you’ll primarily support business areas such as Sales, Finance, Supply Chain and Operations. In addition, you’ll manage and develop a global team of 6-10 analysts while leading multiple global projects.    The Enterprise Applications Sr. Manager will also help define, lead, and execute the strategy for our Global IT Applications Team, particularly in the areas of application architecture, delivery, and support.   Additionally, this manager will ensure alignment across other functional teams, foster relationships with key business and technology stakeholders, understand the business needs, and share new or existing capabilities that can address or improve business operations. 


This position reports to the Sr. Manager, Application Services and will interact with various senior Global IT leaders across Tennant.

Team Management

  • Manage staff to solve complex problems considering required business functionality, sustainability, and scalability of solutions.  Ensure that new functionality and enhancements do not adversely affect existing IT solutions that support business functionality
  • Manage and coordinate off-shore resources as necessary to support overall delivery
  • Determine team objectives, tactics, and budget in alignment with strategic business objectives and in coordination with IT delivery teams to align solution delivery activities to architecture standards and objectives.
  • Recruit, manage and continually develop a global IT staff of direct reports to make world class partners for Tennant Business functions
  • Actively support Team engagement initiatives and continue to drive employee satisfaction scores
  • Operational, Administrative & Financial Management
  • Responsible for ensuring the overall success of projects, enhancements and production support through direction, coordination, and oversight of a global team of employees and professional services
  • Establishes metrics, key performance indicators and service level agreements for driving the performance of IT service delivery.
  • Create and maintain a close working relationship with all levels of the Global IT team as well as establishing strong working relationships across Tennant Company
  • Maintain required IT controls, including SOX and other audit requirements
  • Be available for scheduled on-call duties
  • Helps manage IT’s operational budget to help keep the organization on-track.
  • Responsible for the overall effectiveness and efficiency of our application solution portfolio and day to day support ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction are maintained.

Strategy and Planning

  • Participates in IT strategy planning activities, bringing a current knowledge and future vision of Application technology and systems and best practices as related to the needs of the business.
  • Collaborate with other IT Leaders and Business partners to translate the business capability roadmaps into technology roadmaps and implementation plans.
  • Accountable for consistency, resiliency, and operational effectiveness of new and existing enterprise applications working closely with the Enterprise Architecture team.
  • Recommend, customize, and implement IT solutions across enterprise to best meet business objectives and drive consistency, simplification, and collaboration.


  • 5-7 years successful management within a global Application Services team.
  • 8+ years business experience driving IT transformational change while in a senior leadership role for a global enterprise
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated success driving cross-functional global Continuous Improvements initiatives 
  • Experience with primary delivery and development methodologies.  (Waterfall, Agile)
  • Proficient understanding of project and program management including project prioritization and resource allocation in a global IT organization.
  • Experience with ERP solutions and implementations including understanding of key business processes such as Lead-to-Cash, Procure-to-Pay, Record-to-Report, Plan-to-Stock, etc.; SAP experience preferred
  • Demonstrated experience in effective Change Management
  • Demonstrated use of lean processes to optimize and drive operational excellence across multiple value streams involving operations, IT, manufacturing and supply chain
  • Experience designing and implementing managed services strategies.
  • Experience defining and rationalizing KPIs/metrics in driving measurable improvements tied to EBITDA impacting results
  • Experience managing others directly and/or indirectly through mentoring, coaching and persuasion

  • Proven record of driving results (project and enhancement delivery, application support & maintenance
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and influence at all levels and to communicate complex problems to other people in a simple way that they will understand
