Senior Compliance Specialist


Tennant Company’s Global Ethics and Corporate Compliance team is looking for a Senior Compliance Specailist to manage and drive organization-wide global ethics and corporate compliance programs and initiatives. This role supports Tennant Company's overall corporate compliance and ethics functions. This role will report to the Global Compliance Counsel and will work as part of Tennant Company’s in-house Legal department. This role is highly collaborative and responsible, both independently and in collaboration with Global Compliance Counsel, for driving Tennant Company’s corporate compliance and ethics programs.



This role will be responsible for helping manage the company’s Ethics and Corporate Compliance program, including privacy compliance and will be responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of training programs and awareness activities for ethics and legal compliance issues, and helping direct corporate compliance program activities designed to strengthen adherence to key policies and requirements.

  • Assists with planning and executing annual corporate compliance and ethics projects and initiatives based on the organization’s risk assessment, the Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations, and industry guidance or standards
  • Assists with the development of reports on program status, changes to risk profile, Ethics Hotline calls, ongoing monitoring activities, accomplishments and metrics to senior management, and the Board of Directors or designated Board Committee
  • Manages annual policy reviews and maintains policy library (policy administration), including managing the processes for development, revision, communication, tracking and attestation of policies, as necessary. Facilitating the translation of policies (when necessary), and makes policies available and accessible to all employees
  • Assists with the design, development and implementation of a targeted ethics & compliance training program for defined audiences for live/in-person events and through a learning management system and/or ethics & compliance software, including onboarding trainings, targeted trainings, and periodic re-training
  • Performs ad hoc project analysis. Analyzes, summarizes and/or reviews data; reports findings, interprets results and/or makes recommendations.
  • Manages a comprehensive number of projects regarding ethics and corporate compliance efforts, developing and designing project and resource plans that support them.
  • Creates detailed schedules, including measurable milestones and success factors, and shares reports on project progress, problems and solutions.
  • Improves engagement between senior leadership and the teams tasked with the execution of core projects, fostering a community of committed stakeholders across the global organization.
  • Designs and drafts ethics and corporate compliance communication campaigns that promote a culture of ethics, compliance and inclusion, and enable risk mitigation
  • Work directly with global stakeholders to localize policies, communications, and training content (e.g., for language, local regulations)
  • Assist with drafting new and enhancing existing policies and procedures
  • Look for ways to improve the ethics & corporate compliance program 
  • Identifies potential areas of corporate compliance vulnerability and risk on an ongoing basis;
  • Assists with the development, implementation and monitoring of corrective action plans for resolution of identified ethics and corporate compliance issues, and work with internal clients on identifying, detecting and preventing similar situations in the future
  • Actively participates in the conduct and periodic update of the Company’s corporate compliance and ethics related risk assessment
  • Coordinates with vendors to keep relevant ethics and corporate compliance training up-to-date, and implemented on an ongoing basis for new and current employees, directors and officers, contractors and other appropriate third parties
  • Assists with the development, implementation, management and continuous improvement of internal controls designed to promote corporate compliance with law and company policy
  • Assist in monitoring legal and regulatory developments, assessing potential impact for global stakeholders, supporting and advising on implementation strategies
  • Assist with managing third-party due diligence program
  • Maintains appropriate records related to corporate compliance and ethics initiatives
  • Manages data analysis on corporate compliance and ethics programs, identifying opportunity areas and strengths
  • Manages and maintains employee data feeds to training, disclosures, and policy management portals
  • Establishes and maintains relationships across the organization as a trusted partner and resource to aid in the implementation of ethics, corporate compliance and culture outreach
  • Adheres to Tennant Company’s Business Ethics Guide (Code of Conduct), complies with applicable company policies, and successfully completes required training on time
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree or associate’s degree with related work experience
  • Fluent in reading, writing and speaking English
  • 5+ years’ experience supporting an in-house corporate compliance function
  • 3+ years’ experience in project management
  • Ability to investigate and define strategies to execute cost-effective, efficient, low-risk project management
  • Experience creating or managing a corporate Compliance Management System
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and communicate with a wide range of stakeholders, including mid-level and executive level managers
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and work independently on multiple projects, to accomplish objectives and goals
  • Experience managing project teams and working with cross-functional staff;
  • Knowledge building including comprehending complex issues quickly, ability to do effective research & succinct analysis, and an inquisitive mind to go below the surface of regulatory requirements
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience training and educating internal and external stakeholders
  • Attention to detail and excellent follow through 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be required



  • Industry recognized certification from organizations such as SCCE (CCEP, CCEP-F or CCEP-I designation) or IAPP (CIPP designation)
  • Project management experience a plus
  • Experience in complex and/or international organizations
  • Experience in publicly traded organizations
  • Government/regulatory experience a plus
  • Proactively identifies and solves complex problems; thinks beyond existing solutions and framework

Physical Requirements

Requires occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as file folders, ledgers, and small tools. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.
