Senior Accountant, Consolidations

The Senior Accountant Consolidations position is a key member of the Corporate Accounting team and is responsible for accounting for complex transactions and consolidating results during the month end close cycle. This position will develop a strong knowledge of the consolidation processes and accounting policies, while providing a role in the preparation of the consolidated financial statements for internal and external stakeholders. Other responsibilities include: developing strong working relationships with operating units and various business functions around the world and aiding in resolving complex structure, accounting, and financial accounting issues; assisting in the implementation of updates to the financial accounting systems; initiating and implementing process improvements and leading other projects as needed. This role will be highly visible to other accounting teams and functions globally and has the potential to expand into greater levels of responsibility.


General Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly journal entries and workpapers which requires an understanding of complex accounting rules and principles (e.g. share-based compensation, intercompany accounting, consolidations, business combinations, etc.)
  • Execute monthly close processes and coordinate with global entities to ensure timely compliance with close calendar.
  • Consolidate monthly global results for Tennant including eliminations and equity in affiliate entries.
  • Understand key components of the general ledger close process, implementing system enhancements where possible. Perform configuration and testing related to existing or new processes/implementations as needed. Implement improvements to shorten general ledger close process whenever possible.
  • Build relationships across teams globally to drive consistency in accounting and reporting.
  • Reconcile selected accounts to the general ledger in order to reflect accurate accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and SOX 404 requirements. Recommend appropriate correcting entries and improvements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Prepare, analyze and review financial and/or analytical reports and related workpapers.
  • Assist Financial Planning and Analysis group during budget preparation periods.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing related workpapers and analysis.
  • Document internal audit/404 requirements, including writing or enhancing narratives and documentation of controls for key processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of footnotes to financial statements.
  • Research technical GAAP issues and prepare technical accounting memos as required.
  • Manage and assist with various ad-hoc projects and analysis on an as needed/assigned basis.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Minimum three years of relevant experience in a public company or public accounting firm
  • SAP or Blackline experience a plus
  • Public accounting experience, preferably Big 4, a plus
  • CPA preferred

  • Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision
