Payroll Manager

This role will lead the North America payroll, including execution, time and attendance and payroll systems evaluation and implementation of payroll systems and vendor partnerships. Success in this role involves an ability to be agile and nimble to drive continuous process improvement to enhance our employee experience with compliance, security and accurate processing.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The successful candidate will be equally comfortable delivering on operational goals and payroll transformation. In this newly created role, the Manager will oversee our North America payroll and time & attendance functions, build a comprehensive process to support the enterprise. This is a high impact role with significant accountability in leading and delivering payroll-related projects. This role will have overall accountability to support SOX key controls in enhancing the Company’s existing payroll procedures and internal controls and seek opportunities to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Develops and maintains comprehensive knowledge of payroll requirements, practices and procedures for effective US and Canada payroll processing includes payroll taxes.
  • Manage the disbursement of US and Canadian payrolls, including benefits, taxes, 401K/profit sharing, incentives/bonuses, as well as any other related compensation adjustments to 2,000+ employees, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local county regulations
  • Manages the Workforce Software (“WFS” - Time and Attendance) from a Payroll processing perspective.
  • Manage the process for transactional control reviews to ensure payroll processes are compliant with established department internal controls and SOX.
  • Manage the reporting from SAP and WFS as it relates to gross payroll, tax deductions, benefit deductions and employee status change requests, to ensure consistency between systems and with source records.
  • Respond to and manage all inquiries relating to payroll and payroll and time & attendance systems, while acting as the main point-of-contact for payroll and interact seamlessly with key stakeholders and partners.
  • Perform monthly and/or quarterly reconciliations of wages, benefits, taxes etc. as needed to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Manage and audit W-2s and yearly administration of payroll in preparation of the following calendar year
  • Provide oversight of 401(k) contributions, loan payment and annual Profit Sharing in collaboration with the Benefits Manager.
  • For system upgrades and/or enhancements, collaborate with team members and provide support on testing and validation of system changes due to system upgrades and/or enhancements.
  • Work independently or with team members to troubleshoot issues and collaborate to ensure proper controls and processes within the system are being followed or developed.
  • Maintain communication with payroll service provider and WFS regarding software updates and new products available to be able to initiate the use of new features along with HR,
  • Lead, recommend and participate in projects to continually review and improve current processes and internal controls.
  • Build and nurture strong working relationships with all levels of the organization. Work closely with key stakeholders internally, HRBPs, Finance, Accounting, Facilities and others to resolve issues and drive end-to-end process improvements

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in applicable field or Equivalent experience with Payroll/Time and attendance systems, payroll processing experience in both in-house and managed payroll environments.
  • CPP strongly preferred.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in payroll and time & attendance.
  • Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Background and proficiency in all applicable statutory requirements and all applicable government agency compliance requirements
  • Relevant experience in leading projects that support payroll transformation such as payroll systems and time and attendance
  • Experience in a global public company
  • Solid interpersonal, communication - verbal and written, and presentation skills
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Leadership, coaching, mentoring and negotiating skills
