Litigation Management Specialist / Paralegal - Litigation

PURPOSE/SCOPE:  

The Litigation Management Specialist/Paralegal - Litigation is key member of the Tennant legal team with broad responsibility for supporting Tennant in all litigation matters and product incident resolution.  This role works closely with both supervising Tennant counsel and external counsel as part of the global legal team.  An excellent opportunity to make an impact on both process and the bottom line for a thriving business, this role will be a collaborative partner and have a wide range of responsibilities for all facets of litigation management and meaningfully contribute to ongoing continuous product improvement efforts. 

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Provide broad legal support for Tennant in all litigation matters including commercial, intellectual property, product regulatory and liability, and employment matters.  This includes investigating, monitoring, documenting, and responding to requests for information in ways that enable Tennant Company to actively manage its litigation risks and proactively resolve claims. 
  • Demonstrate, maintain, and develop knowledge of general and specific legal areas, with specific focus on those areas that uniquely impact Tennant.
  • Collaborate with Product Regulatory team members on Product Incident investigations including: organizing site visits (internal parties, insurance, external counsel, experts, others); ensuring completion of necessary forms and reporting at intake; coordinating customer response communications; and contributing to the resolution of outstanding matters with a goal of resolving product incidents pre-claim.
  • Serve as a member of the Product Safety Committee, contributing to record-keeping, assisting with the execution of product corrective actions.
  • Conduct preliminary employee interviews and engage with employees throughout any claims process in which their participation is needed.
  • Be the primary point of contact for Risk Management and a key resource to Tennant Insurance carriers on the status of claims and litigation.
  • Maintain the company files and records and assist Tennant counsel in the preparation of correspondence, litigation materials, and reporting needs, including quarterly litigation reporting for audit purposes.
  • Manage legal activities associated with pending deadlines, and ensure attorneys and stakeholders are aware of those deadlines.
  • Manage and assist with maintaining, updating, and implementing standard operating procedures and best practices for relevant legal processes, including legal discovery, legal holds, settlement authorities and document retention.
  • Draft, revise, and proofread presentations, reports, and documents for legal department, organizational, and external use.
  • As needed, participate in or assist in the preparation of others attending, mediations or arbitrations.
  • Assist with general corporate legal matters approximately 10-15% of the time as needed based on the needs of the department.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • A nationally recognized paralegal certification; an ABA-accredited paralegal degree; 5 years’ experience as a paralegal, legal analyst, or otherwise performing the responsibilities of a paralegal; or a juris doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Experience supporting general litigation is required.
  • Prior experience supporting product liability litigation and product incident processes for an organization is a plus.
