Global Commercial Counsel

 

PURPOSE/SCOPE:  

The Global Commercial Counsel plays a critical role in our Legal organization responsible for supporting Tennant’s commercial teams globally by partnering with and advising business teams on a variety of commercial transactions and related legal issues. This global role reports directly to the SVP, General Counsel, and directly supporting the Chief Commercial Officer and is responsible for managing a global team, driving process improvement and creating a center of excellence in global commercial matters.  The position represents an excellent opportunity to make substantial contributions to a dynamic and thriving business.


GENERAL RESPONISIBILITIES:  

  • Lead and manage all commercial legal matters for the regional business units; develop and implement a maximized commercial legal support strategy. 
  • Coach, develop and mentor business unit focused legal professionals driving a strong internal talent bench and high performance culture and also cultivating a strong external partner network where appropriate.
  • Provide strategic counsel and leadership on major business initiatives which span Tennant’s four business units, such as the sales process around Tennant’s autonomous machine programs, rental and leasing programs, and distributor programs.
  • Develop center of excellence/best practices around customer sales and service contracts, terms and other documentation and processes globally.
  • Assess the legal needs and existing processes of acquired companies to determine an optimized legal support structure for such businesses.
  • Develop policies and processes to assist the commercial teams in driving results and provide regular training on key topics, policies and procedures
  • Serve as key contact on employment matters and litigation impacting the business units, liase with internal and external subject matter experts.
  • Collaborate with internal clients at all levels to effectively minimize legal risk to the business while supporting and assisting in the achievement of the company’s business and strategic objectives.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the company’s business and business practices; engage in a participative and proactive style of legal practice in order to best serve internal clients.


REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

  • Juris Doctorate required
  • Licensed to practice law in Minnesota.
  • Minimum Experience: 10-12 years’ experience as an attorney, experience in both external law firms and in-house corporate roles desired.
  • Prior experience leading legal professionals.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly and succinctly deliver legal advice both orally and in writing to business partners.
  • Experience handling a wide variety of commercial matters including complex commercial contract negotiations internationally.
  • Experience with government contracts, antitrust matters and the oversight of commercial and/or employment litigation preferred.
