As a Tax Manager, you’ll lead the North America Tax team consisting of three direct reports and be responsible for tax matters in the United States, Mexico and Canada.  In this role you’ll be responsible for the preparation and oversight of US GAAP world-wide tax provision while ensuring compliance with ASC 740. You’ll also be responsible for review and oversight of income tax compliance (federal, international, state and local), audit assistance, research and process improvements. In addition you’ll have an opportunity to get involved in special projects covering North American operations.   • Income Taxes
    • Overall responsibility for US consolidated income tax return, including review and/or preparation of federal, state and local income tax returns, estimates and extensions.  Ensure adequate file documentation.
    • Review of Foundation tax return
    • Review of Canadian income tax return (federal and provincial)
    • Manage outsourced projects covering North America
    • Analyze, research and resolve tax treatment of various transactions/items.
    • Identify potential planning opportunities to minimize tax liability and compliance burden.
    • Analyze potential tax exposure areas and develop recommendations for increased reporting system efficiency.
  • Income Tax Accounting
    • Preparation and oversight of US GAAP world-wide tax provision ensuring compliance with ASC 740.
    • Preparation of North America calculation of tax rates, quarterly and annual tax provisions and application of ASC 740 (primary focus on US taxes).
    • Assist International Tax Manager with review and preparation of International tax reporting packages.
    • Assist VP with quarterly and annual financial statement tax disclosures.
    • Coordinate external auditor review of tax provision work papers and disclosures.
  • Tax Audits
    • Assist VP with federal and state income tax audits. Activities may include gathering information needed to respond to information requests, drafting responses, researching issues and recommending positions.
  • Tax Research and Planning
    • Keep abreast of developments in the U.S. tax area.  Keep VP updated on developments and evaluate the impact and identify planning opportunities. Recommend changes in policies and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable tax laws and regulations.
    • Assist VP with tax research & planning projects.
    • Assist VP with acquisitions focusing on US implications of transaction and structuring options.
  • Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) Documentation
    • Implement and ensure compliance with SOX controls required in the income tax area.
  • Other
    • Supervise overall indirect tax process including Sales & Use taxes, outsourcing relationships with providers covering personal property tax, business licenses and annual reports.
    • Supervise, develop, train and motivate staff.
    • Provide technical expertise to other departments.
    • Train staff and business partners on ASC 740 and tax return compliance projects.
    • Ongoing review of information sources and flows focusing on ways to improve information gathering and tax reporting processes.
    • Work with other business departments to assure accounting, tax and legal requirements are met.
    • Other projects as assigned.


Education and Experience


  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field
  • Master’s in Business Taxation or other advanced tax courses (CPA) preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of corporate tax experience in a large CPA firm and/or corporate tax department
  • Prior supervisory experience.
  • Tax experience should include compliance, research, planning and income tax accounting with focus on federal and international income taxes. General state tax knowledge a plus.
  • Tax experience in a manufacturing environment a plus.
  • Working knowledge of ASC 740 and Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) control process.
  • Project management experience a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations as well as generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills with strong detail orientation. Ability to develop recommendations and make decisions.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to clearly present complex material and recommendations to diverse audiences.
  • Sound business judgment including ability to look at issues from a non-tax perspective.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with frequent deadlines and in a high pressure environment.
  • Ability to plan, organize and manage multiple complex tasks.
  • Well-developed computer skills, including MS Office suite, tax software, etc. SAP a plus.
