Tennant Company is currently seeking a Materials Manager for our Minneapolis Manufacturing Plant.  The purpose of this role is to ensure that Tennant’s Minneapolis customers, both internal and external, receive the right materials at the right time, at the lowest total cost.  This includes the design, implementation and management of core materials management practices, such as scheduling, inventory control, sales & operations planning and material handling.   In addition, this leader will ensure that all Sarbanes-Oxley polices are followed and adhered to.



  • Lead and support a center of excellence for materials
  • Direct the performance of the materials team to meet objectives (safety, quality, delivery, cost, engagement).
  • Ensure a safe work environment for all employees through safe work practices, addressing and resolving unsafe conditions, and proactively leading the Safety Committee for the organization
  • Ensure optimal planning policies and guidelines
  • Implement planning policies and PFEP that will right size the inventory for the business
  • Communicate and lead the introduction of new products and changes related to project plans
  • Control the level of stock through product life cycle management and scrapping of deadstock
  • Conduct investigations and resolve issues on bottlenecks in the supply chain related to vendor performance
  • Continue to improve the materials organization with the goal of increasing service level, cost reduction, introduction of lean logistics and the execution of global projects
  • Prioritize SAP related projects fitting into the supply chain technology roadmap.  Identify, recommend and drive improvements to current processes.  Work in conjunction with IT to achieve desired results.
  • Develop data analytics and maintain systems that will bring visibility to key supply chain KPIs
  • Utilize, coach and foster the use of lean tools to drive improvements
  • Drive LEAN initiatives to establish material flow, standard work, and tier boards within material handling teams
  •  Partner with internal customers to enhance the customer experience and drive new business
  • Assist and collaborate with other Operations leaders of the company to achieve cross-functional financial and operating goals and objectives
  • Assist in the development and annually update of the operations roadmap
  • Develop and grow a strong supply chain team including recruiting, succession planning and career planning



  • Bachelor’s degree preferably related to Supply Chain, Operations and/or Engineering with minimum of 15 years of experience in Materials related field
  • 5-7 years of related management experience.
  • Proven track record of implementation and results from Lean improvements
  • Experience with international locations and companies
  • APICS/CPIM preferred



  • Proficiency with SAP planning, procurement and Warehouse Management
  • Worked in an operations setting with a background in material flow
  • Ability to turn operations needs into IT requirements
  • Basic understanding of Sarbanes Oxley rules
  • Worked in an aftermarket or distribution environment
  • Ability to develop a team
